Numéro 9 First seen Bejing 2012
With lines taken from the inspired Metropolis concept car shown at the Shanghai world expo in 2010, styled Numéro 9 has some how combined elegant and muscular as have all the radical designs of the Citroens DS range. The new DS9 will be the French flagship model for Citroen’s expansion into China and beyond, almost 5 meters long, 2 wide it’s a huge shooting brake with an attitude to match. Although it’s expected to lose the dramatic wheels and wing mirrors for production. The Numéro 9 (DS9) concept is designed with plug in full hybrid technology; an ultra efficient system that comes with remarkable levels of performance 166 mpg fuel economy, 50 km range in ZEV mode, 295 bhp, a ‘boost' function and 39 g/km of CO2.
Citroen boss Frederic Banzet confirmed at the Geneva motor show that this would mark the “internationalisation” of the DS brand. We should get to see a new model roll out each year up to 2016. The DS9 will initially be sold in China and then be rolled out else where, although Citroen would find it hard to justify a UK launch given the poor response in previous years and lack lustre sales figures for larger Citroen saloons.
The DS9 should be with us by the end of 2013 with an SUV (DS-X) to follow, with Citroen possibly leaving room for DS6 (Metropolis) or even a DS7 and DS8.
