1973 Citroen DS – D Super 5,5 speed manual column shift,Left hand drive,34,527 miles / 55.500km,UK MOT until March 2013,UK Taxed end of December 2012,FIA/MSA Historic Regularity Rally Papers,£29,950 / €37.350 / US$47,750 or near offer.

Available for sale is my 1973 Citroen DS. I have owned the car for just under 3 years and have completed a full ground up restoration to prepare it for various classic car events in the UK and Europe as well as general classic touring with my family. The car won its class on the 2012 HERO Scottish Malts Rally, 2011 Ilkley Jubilee Rally, 2011 Champagne to The Alpen Pass Rally and won best in class at the 2011 Pateley Bridge Concours event. It has just returned from the 2012 Champagne to The Vosges du Nord Rally where it placed on the podium again with a 3rd. The car is in grade one condition mechanically and aesthetically, is fully taxed, insured and complete with MOT (no advisories).

It really is a car you can jump into and drive the length and breadth of Europe; I know, I did it last month and it didn’t miss a beat. I wouldn’t hesitate to use it for any trip, long or short.

The car has benefited from a full back to bare metal restoration by a renowned DS specialist including repair and replacement of sills, chassis, door bottoms, rear wings, floor pan, boot pan and more. I have a full photo set of the restoration from start to finish which is available to view and will be handed over with the car.

Finished in original Italian Rosso Corsa paint to bodywork, black paint to roof. The interior has been fully restored with new padding and completely new but identical to factory fit black targa (vinyl) as well as a bespoke black wool carpet set made by A.S. Pickering in May 2012. I have also sourced and fitted the rare and highly sought after large format (full width) front headrests complete with chrome fitments. The car is fitted with inertia reel seatbelts for passenger safety front and back.

Items changed/replaced in addition to bodywork:

• 123 Electronic ignition
• 4 x SM Maserati spheres (provides better handling at speed)
• Air filter and housing
• Battery (Bosch high output cell)
• Bespoke black pure wool carpets front and back by A.S. Pickering
• Brantz International 2 Tripmeter (fully removable)
• Cibie Super Oscar wide pattern spotlights complete with period covers (fully removable)
• Front nearside and offside driveshafts (complete replacement)
• Front new OEM pads (1200 miles ago) and rear shoe overhaul
• Front track rod ends
• Fuel tank replaced with modern safer unit and all pipework replaced
• Full bespoke stainless exhaust system
• Full engine hose set (all hoses and pipes replaced with new items)
• Headlights (replaced with brighter halogen bulbs for UK night driving)
• Heater matrix
• iPod / MP3 connection (discreetly done keeping period stereo, connection in glovebox)
• Michelin original XAS tyres x 5 (inc spare) at a cost of just under £1000.
• Plugs, filters, oil, LHM changed every c.3000 miles
• Radiator (full replacement)
• Radiator cowl
• Rear suspension bellows (complete replacement)
• Speedo changed to show MPH rather than KPH, mileage adjusted to same (miles).
• Under bonnet soundproofing
• Water pump, accumulator and all belts replaced with new
• Wheel bearings all round (complete replacement)

Spares: (included in sale)

• Red OMP 4 point harnesses (front seats – fully removable)
• 4 x original steel wheels (complete with specialist high silicon winter tyres)
• 4 x Pallas full chrome wheel trims
• 4 x DS21 OEM suspension spheres
• Original mild steel OEM exhaust
• 2 x cut away rear Citroen Works wings (finished in same Rosso Corsa paint)
• Spare OEM grey carpet set (front and back)

I have done many thousands of miles in the DS since the restoration was completed in August 2011 and alongside this I have maintained the car to keep things in tip top shape. The oil, filter, LHM (liquid mineral oil that runs the suspension, gearbox, power steering, brakes), plugs, fuel filter, timing, brake pads/shoes etc. have all been monitored closely and the car is stored permanently in a state of readiness. The car is kept in an Airchamber (hard to find the right size for a DS, available as part of sale by negotiation) to maintain the perfection of paint and bodywork and fully detailed when needed with Zymol products to keep things looking good. The underside and arches have been full cavity wax oiled which is essential for those wanting to use the car no matter what the weather.

In summary I would put the car at well over 90 points out of 100. It comes ready to be used straight away as either a wonderful example of the DS or used in historic rallies or general classic car touring events. When I bought the car my wife insisted that it be kept in a suitable state to enjoy as a family. Thus all the rally kit (Works Citroen cutaway rear wings, Brantz Tripmaster, OMP harnesses, Cibie lights, fire extinguishers etc.) are all completely removable meaning that the car can be a competitive rally car one moment and an elegant cruiser for 5 people plus luggage the next.

It will be supplied with all period decals/stickers/roundels removed (unless the buyer requests different), fully detailed, MOTd, taxed and ready to drive as far and as fast as you want to go. Also included is all detailed paperwork of the restoration (bills in excess of £19,000 / €23.750 / $30,500 for bodywork alone), old MOTs, tax disks, the full history of the car from when it was imported from Montpellier in 2008 by Citroen Classics and a scrapbook of the various features/photos of the car in magazines including Octane, Motorsport, Classic Car etc.

The car is in North Yorkshire, England and is available for viewing at a classic car storage unit 9am-5pm 5 days a week. Potential viewers can be collected from local train stations, Leeds Airport or Manchester airport. Weekends/evenings can be arranged with notice.

I have a huge number of additional photos if required and am quite happy to take phone calls at any time to discuss the car.
