Chassis No HZ1994-1
The ZX in 5-door hatchback and a 3-door coupe were designed to attract a younger Citroen clientele. With this attractive looking convertible Citroen were hoping to go one step further, Heuliez began work in March 1994, based on the ZX Coupe, It was a collaboration with Citroën and ASC products. The rear has been extended by about 13cm and the boot offered more room than the coupe despite the folding roof, In October 1994 the ZX was presented at the Paris Motor Show. But PSA had already launched the Peugeot 306 and the ZX would only present competition from their own group. So sadly never reached production, Plus the fact the ZX was already in its fourth year of production and development of the Xsara was well under way.
This running prototype, built on the platform of a ZX that came off the production line, is in superb condition. It has a maroon soft top and an attractive interior with brick red leather and patterned fabric. The car displays just 22 km on the odometer. It is powered by a four-cylinder 16-valve petrol engine mated to a five-speed gearbox.
The car has never been registered, but is in running condition, the engine belt has been recently changed. Extremely elegant and finished to a high standard, this superb hand-built concept-cabriolet would have merited production.
Today, being unique makes it even more special.
